Mugardos celebrates its grand rowing regatta this Saturday

The Town Council, Club do Mar and Reganosa are organising the event, which is expected to attract more than 100 boats and up to 750 participants

Tomorrow, Mugardos will become the Galician capital of rowing. Starting at 4 p.m., more than a hundred boats will participate in the VI Concello de Mugardos Men’s Flag and the I Reganosa Women’s Flag. Both events, in which between 500 and 750 athletes will compete, belong to the Galician Rowing League.

The competition can be followed from the port of Mugardos itself. The first to row will be the juniors, followed by the children, cadets, youth and seniors. In the junior and children’s categories, there are female, mixed and male categories; from the cadet category onwards, there are only female and male categories.

Fifteen clubs will participate: CR Celeiro, CRN Riveira, CR Cabo da Cruz, CR Puebla, CR Rianxo, AD Esteirana Remo, CR Ares, CR Muros, CR A Cabana Ferrol, CR Cedeira, CR Perillo, CDM Mera, CR Narón, CN Boiro and CM Mugardos.

The presentation of this sporting event brought together the town’s deputy mayor, Ana Varela; the director of Club do Mar, Pablo Robatto; Merce Pereira, representative of the club’s rowers; and the head of the Mugardos Energy Terminal, Nuria Rivas, at the port of Mugardos.

The director of Club do Mar de Mugardos, Pablo Robatto, expressed his gratitude for the support of both entities: “This weekend’s regatta includes, on the one hand, the VI Bandera Masculina Concello de Mugardos and, on the other, the I Bandera Femenina Reganosa. For us, as a club, it is very important to have the support and sponsorship of these two entities, both the Council and Reganosa.”

For her part, Ana Varela explained that ‘the Mugardos Council supports these regattas to promote culture, sport and, above all, local athletes’.

Nuria Rivas highlighted Reganosa’s commitment to the environment, local sport and equality: “This year, in addition to supporting women’s rowing in Mugardos, we are also supporting grassroots sport. At the Mugardos Energy Terminal, we are committed to our environment, local sport and women’s sport. It is an honour for us to organise this flag with the Mugardos Council and the Club do Mar de Mugardos.”
