REGANOSA AND ENAGÁS CREATE AN ENERGY "HUB" IN THE NORTHWEST OF THE PENINSULA

With the closing of the transaction, Enagás acquires Reganosa's gas pipeline network, and Reganosa acquires 25% of the El Musel plant, which will be renamed Musel E-Hub.

Reganosa and Enagás have today closed the transaction for the purchase, by Enagás, of Reganosa's 130 kilometers network of gas pipelines, for approximately 54 million euros, and the purchase, by Reganosa, of 25% of the El Musel regasification plant in Gijón, for approximately 95 million euros. This facility will be renamed Musel E-Hub. The transaction, which is the result of the agreement between the two companies reached on February 28, has been successfully closed once the necessary authorizations have been obtained.

This transaction favors the creation of a large energy hub in the northwest of the peninsula, which in turn reinforces Spain's role as Europe's renewable hydrogen enclave and will integrate renewable hydrogen production in the area with future hydrogen corridors in the Iberian Peninsula.

The CEO of Enagás, Arturo Gonzalo, stressed that "the closing of this historic operation for the Spanish gas system strengthens both companies because it allows them to take advantage of their synergies to promote the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula as an energy hub in Europe and because it allows them to work together on new possibilities of collaboration to continue strengthening the security of supply and to advance in the objectives of decarbonization".

For his part, the general manager of Reganosa, Emilio Bruquetas, pointed out that this alliance lays the foundations for the energy development of the northwest of the peninsula. "This is an area with exceptional conditions for the production of green hydrogen and biogas. Today we lay the foundations so that all the key infrastructures for the development of renewable gases are built and operate at the service of the system", he added.  "This historic agreement - he concluded - is based on one of our founding principles: public-private collaboration and cooperation between companies".

Details of the transaction

With the closing of the transaction, Enagás acquires the entire transport network that until now was owned by Reganosa and which consists of 130 kilometers of gas pipelines of 80 bar pressure. This network is included in the backbone network and is key to guaranteeing security of supply and the proper functioning of the Iberian gas market. It connects with the Mugardos LNG terminal and with the Tui-Llanera gas pipeline in Guitiriz and Abegondo. It has three metering stations, three regulation and measurement stations, and thirteen valve positions. The transport network delivers natural gas directly to the combined cycle power plants of As Pontes (800 MW) and Sabón (400 MW), to the A Coruña refinery (120,000 barrels/day) and to the towns of As Pontes and Cerceda.

In addition, Reganosa cedes to Enagás its position as promoter of the hydro-product between Guitiriz (Lugo) and Zamora, a candidate for the European Union's Project of Common Interest (PCI). Enagás, for its part, undertakes to promote the development of this transport infrastructure and its connection to the interconnection with Portugal, and will have the support of Reganosa to speed up its approval as much as possible. The Guitiriz-Zamora hydroproduct is part of the non-binding call for interest process for the first axes of the Spanish hydrogen backbone network, presented by Enagás last September 14 in order to gauge the interest of the main agents of the energy sector in the development of the necessary renewable hydrogen transport infrastructures.

For its part, Reganosa has a 25 % stake in the Musel E-Hub, which until now was 100 % owned by Enagás and which has a storage capacity of 300,000 cubic meters of LNG, distributed in two tanks of 150,000 cubic meters each. It also has berthing and unloading facilities designed for the world's largest LNG carriers, the Q-max, of up to 266,000 cubic meters.

On July 1, the Musel E-Hub received the first ship, the 174,000 cubic meter capacity Cool Racer, which carried out the first unloading required for the final technical tests prior to commercial start-up. On July 11, Enagás awarded Endesa the logistics services for the liquefied natural gas terminal, and on August 11 the terminal received Endesa's first ship, the 180,000 cubic meter capacity Gaslog Warsaw. Since its commissioning, four ships have unloaded, two in trials and two commercial unloading. The plant can provide up to 8 billion cubic meters (bcm)/year of LNG to strengthen Europe's security of energy supply.
